Chess at Guardian Angels started with 'Chess in School and Communities' with then visiting chess tutor Mr Lewis in 2013. Initially it was offered as part of the Year 5 curriculum. Proving very popular, chess was rolled out to Year 5 and 6 pupils and as an after school activity the same year, and then to Year 3 and 4 the next year.
Guardian Angels have competed in several different chess tournaments, Tower Hamlets, London and Online Worldwide, including the annual Chess Classic at Olympia.
In 2015, a Year 6 pupil even had the opportunity to visit the House of Lords and play a game of chess against former Worlds Champion Gary Kasparov.
Currently the Guardian Angels Chess Club meets on Tuesday lunchtimes and is open to 15 Year 3 and 4 pupils.
